Forsyth County Measures of Health: Births, Deaths, Disease, Vaccinations, July 1922

63 Birth and 11 Deaths in County. . . Few Contagious Diseases Reported During July; Other Health Activities

According to the July report of Dr. C.N. Sisk, county health officer, the population of Forsyth County, outside of Winston-Salem, is increasing rapidly. The vital statistics section of the report shows nearly six times as many births and deaths, the actual figures being as follows:

Births, 63; deaths, 11; Only 12 cases of contagious diseases were reported during the month, which is a record that Dr. Sisk is proud of. He states that he has every reason to believe that practically every such case was reported to him.

Middle Fork, 12; Bethania, 11; Kernersville, 11; South Fork, 8; Abbott’s Creek, 6; Old Town, 6; Belews Creek, 3; Old Richmond, 2; Salem Chapel, 2, Clemmonsville, 1; Vienna, 1; total, 63.

Deaths by Townships

Old Town, 4; Middle Fork, 3; South Fork, 2; Belews Creek, 1; Vienna, 1; total, 11.

Cause of Deaths

Tuberculosis, 4; diarrhea, 1; diabetes mellitus, 1; malformation of head from birth, 1; organic heart disease, 1; uremic poison, 1; pellagra, 1; paralysis, 1; total 11.

Contagious Diseases

Whooping cough, 9; typhoid fever, 2; venereal disease, 1; total, 12.

Vaccinations

Typhoid vaccinations, 829; smallpox vaccinations, 12; toxin-antitoxin complete, 82; total, 923.

Tuberculosis Division

During the month a tuberculosis clinic was held and 133 applicants were examined by Dr. Spruill of the State Tuberculosis Association, with the following results: 56 were found positive; 59 negative, and 18 doubtful.

Infant and Maternal Hygiene

Prenatal cases registered, 4; home conferences with mothers, 30; Little Mothers’ League, children certificates, 22.

School Hygiene

Tonsil and adenoid operations, 1.

Medical and Laboratory Services

Visits to county jail, 2; water analysis, 17; specimens sent to state laboratory, 9.

Examinations

Examined for marriage, 12; teachers examined, 2; child industry examinations, 129; examined for lunacy, 5; examination by court order, 2; total, 150. Sanitation

Urban privies licensed, 26; urban privies, maintenance, repair, 37; sewer connections, 17; rural privies constructed, 3; water supply protected against pollution, 4; abatement of minor nuisances, 4.

Food Control

Inspection of abattoir, 1.
