Mr. Junius Slocumb, head cotton buyer for the W. Weil and Sons, died at his home on West Chestnut street yesterday afternoon at 5:45 o’clock. The funeral will be held from the Methodist church this afternoon at 5 o’clock.
He was 68 years old, a member of the Odd Fellows and Pythians and a steward of the St. Paul Methodist church. For more than 40 years he had been in the employ of H. Weil and Brothers and had during that time won for him a high place in the esteem and confidence of his employers and a distinct place in the life of the community.
Mr. Slocumb was a brother of the late Captain Thomas W. Slocumb. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Anna Dewey, and by two children, C. Dewey Slocumb and Mrs. Louisa Slocumb Martin.
Mr. Slocumb was next to the oldest Grand Master of the Odd Fellows Lodge in North Carolina. He was always actively interested in fraternal affairs. Honorary pall bearers at the funeral will be W.T. Hollowell, J.T. Harrison, C.G. Smith, Joe Rosenthal, TR. Robinson, J.M. Powell, F.B. Bizzell, Richard Johnson, P.H. Sasser, George C. Kornegay, Dr. R.A. Smith and W.T. Yelverton.
Active pall bearers will be R. JackSmith(?), Charley Richardson, H.P. Dortch Jr., Paul Griswold, Frank Hoses, D.H. Dixon, W.E. Stroud, R.H. Stevens and Judge W.S. O’B. Robinson.
