Comic strips are still relatively new in North Carolina newspapers, but here’s Mutt and Jeff, one of the first daily comic strips that appeared in American newspapers. It was begun by cartoonist Bud Fisher in 1907 and remained in syndication until 1983. This particular strip was printed in The Western Sentinel, Winston-Salem, August 1, 1922.
