The fire which destroyed the cotton gin of Mrs. T.B.S. Ludwick at the intersection of Maupin avenue and the Lincolnton road yesterday afternoon about 3 o’clock made complete destruction of the building and machinery and the loss of both is placed at $3,000 with no insurance. There was very little raw cotton in the building at the time of the fire.
The origin of the fire is said to have been from a hot shaft box, this igniting lint, and the blaze soon spread all over the interior of the frame building with the result that the destruction was rapid and complete.
