Hill Ellington, 11, Kills Sallie Satterwhite, 14, in Fight Over Tobacco, Dec. 17, 1922

Young Girl Killed by 11-Year-Old Boy. . . Hill Ellington Murders Sallie Satterwhite With Piece of Wood at Dabney

Henderson, Dec. 16—Sallie Satterwhite, 14 years old, was killed by her playmate, Hill Ellington, 11-year-old son of T.D. Ellington, of this county, with a stick of wood Friday afternoon near Dabney. It is stated the boy struck the girl twice, once on the back and once across the neck. Following the second blow the girl fell and only breathed a few times. It is believed the two children were fighting over some tobacco which the girl had and the boy wanted.

After the girl fell the boy was heard to say, “I’ve laid her out this time, all right, she won’t bother me any more,” according to reports. The Ellington boy after killing the girl ran away and was found last night some four miles from home at the home of Luther Parham. Young Ellington is now in jail in Henderson and it is believed he will be sent to a reformatory as soon as the case can be handled.
