The Wear-best Overall Company Inc. is a new enterprise for Reidsville.
The plant will be located in the Thompson building on Morehead and West Market streets. The most modern machinery is en route and will be installed within the next 10 days.
The officers of the new company are: A.M. Abekop, president; S. Schulman, secretary and treasurer.
Mr. Abelkop has been a resident of Reidsville the past few years, coming to this state from South Africa. Mr. Schulman comes to Reidsville from New York. The new firm will start on a moderate scale but hopes to “spread out” as occasion may arise. Quite a number of white women will be given employment.
The North continues to cast its eyes to North Carolina, as its manufacturers are beset with labor troubles, and unless conditions improve there we will find many mills closing up shop there and moving equipment here and beginning operations. Not with labor they are now employing, but with he satisfied native labor of this state, and surrounding territory. This is especially true of the mills whose machinery is becoming obsolete and inefficient. The ideal climate, the assured supply of satisfied skilled labor, the nearness of the source of raw materials and the availability of an ample supply of cheap hydro-electric power make this state especially attractive to outside capital in the development of textile manufacturing establishments.
