Winston-Salem, Feb. 3—C.M. Sawyer, well-known business man of Winston-Salem, who was recently convicted of the charge of conspiracy to burn his harness store on Main street, and gave notice of appeal, served notice on the clerk of Superior court that he had abandoned his appeal. He immediately surrendered to the sheriff of Forsyth county and started to Raleigh to begin his eight-year sentence in the State prison.
This notice was witnessed by the six men who had signed Sawyer’s bond.
Sawyer then went to his attorney, Raymond Parker, to the sheriff’s office and advised Sheriff McCreary that he was ready to start to the penitentiary. He was accompanied to Raleigh by Deputy sheriff Holder.
