Newton, May 3—Fifteen gallons of pure mountain moonshine whiskey were poured into the gutters of Main Street today and a match set to it by Chief of Police Tom Gabriel. The capture was made last night on the Lookout bridge at the Southern Power company’s plant. Policeman Gabriel and Cline stationed themselves at the Catawaba end of the bride and waited for the parties they had reason to expect some time during the night. And sure enough, they came.
On being halted, the driver started backward and tried to reach the other side of the river. A shot puncture of one tire threw the car against the side of the railing, bringing it to a halt. Bob Holler was still in the car but Buddie Setzer, his partner, had landed on his feet and made for the Iredell side. Both are young men of North Newton. Holler has made his appearance bond and was present when the liquor was poured into the street. He got one double handful and pronounced it good stuff. He said six gallons belong to him and nine to Setzer.
