R.S. Montgomery Elected New Director in Tobacco Growers Assn., May 14, 1923

R.S. Montgomery New Director

The 11th district convention of the Tobacco Growers Association for the election of a director was held in Greensboro Saturday morning. Every one of the 22 directors from the four counties comprising the district—Rockingham, Caswell, Guilford and Randolph—were present. There were four names presented: John W. King of Greensboro, present director; C.H. Dalton of Madison; R.S. Montgomery of Reidsville, and J.M. Sharp of Reidsville. The first ballot resulted as follows: King 5; Montgomery 9; Sharp 4; and Dalton 4. Sharp and Dalton were withdrawn and the second ballot resulted in Mr. Montgomery’s election of Mr. King by a vote of 12 to 10. On motion of Mr. King, Mr. Montgomery’s election was made unanimous.

Mr. Montgomery’s election gives great satisfaction to his many friends throughout this section. He is a well known and progressive citizen; is president of the First National Bank, a large farmer and h as many other business interests. He is a conservative, level headed business man and will be a tower of strength as a member of the board of directors of the Tri-State Tobacco Growers Cooperative Association. This association now has over 80,000 members and is the largest organization of its kind in the world.

The 11th district headquarters will now be located in Reidsville, the center of the district.

The co-ops are to be congratulated in securing the services of such a valuable man as one of its directors.
