Only half the number of babies today die after the first month, compared with infant mortality 15 or 20 years ago. During the first month 4 per cent of all infants die, just as they did in years past. Life insurance statistics show that it is easier to survive a year at the age of 65 than for a new-born infant to reach the age of one month.
