100 Years Ago, Half of All Babies Died in First Month, June 13, 1923

Only half the number of babies today die after the first month, compared with infant mortality 15 or 20 years ago. During the first month 4 per cent of all infants die, just as they did in years past. Life insurance statistics show that it is easier to survive a year at the age of 65 than for a new-born infant to reach the age of one month.
