Greensboro, June 11—A roadster in which Harvey Rice, Denver Smith, Richard Emerson, Carl Johnson and Terrell Womack, all of High Point, were riding, left the road, turned over three times, crashed into a bank and was completely wrecked late Sunday on Freeman’s Mill Road four miles from High Point.
Richard Emerson’s skull was crushed. He died a few minutes after the accident while en route here to a hospital.
Denver Smith received serious injuries. He is lying here in a hospital in an unconscious state. Slight hope is entertained for his recovery, it is said.
Harvey Rice, owner of the ill-fated car, who is said to have been driving at the time of the accident, has been placed under arrest on the warrant charging him with manslaughter and is held without bail.
