Little Archie Taylor Walker, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie C. Walker of Letitia, died Friday morning, July 6, and was buried Saturday afternoon.
Baby Archie was one year, three months and 22 days old. He was just beginning to talk and his little tongue was always busy.
He was laid to rest in the family cemetery near Mrs. Walker’s old home. The funeral services were very impressive. Upon request of baby Archie’s parents, the relatives composed the small choir which sang only a few beautiful songs. Then after a short talk by Rev. W.D. Hogsed the snow white casket bearing the name “Archie” in pink letters on its breast, was lowered into the grave.
While we sympathize with the relatives, we rejoice that one more little hand waves in Heaven to beckon us upward.
From the front page of The Cherokee Scout, The Official Organ of Murphy and Cherokee County, and the Leading Newspaper in This Section of Western North Carolina, July 5, 1923. I don’t know when Archie Walker died but the date in the newspaper has to be incorrect. It says Archie died July 6 in the newspaper that was printed July 5.
