People who expect to shop in Elizabeth City on Friday during July and August had best start in time to do their shopping in the forenoon, as members of the Merchants Association will close their stores all Friday afternoon in order to give them a half holiday during the hot summer months. This is a custom that has been observed yearly for some time by local merchants.
