Witcher Smith, 20, Badly Hurt in Auto Accident, July 4, 1923

Witcher Smith Is Badly Hurt in Auto Wreck

Relatives and friends of Witcher Smith, 20-year-old resident of Danville, were shocked to learn of his serious injury yesterday morning in an automobile accident in Rocky Mount, N.C., where he had been visiting for a week.

Mr. and Mrs. Edgar W. Smith were just preparing to leave for Boston, Mass., when they learned by wire of the accident of their son. They left immediately for Rocky Mount and last evening called other members of the family by telephone and gave some information as to the condition of the young man and description of the cause of the accident. While full examination has not been made, it is known that young Smith’s left hip bone is broken and that several of his ribs were crushed in. His mother reported that he was seriously ill and that they were awaiting further examination with anxiety.—Danville News.
