Washington, N.C., July 30—Oil in Beaufort county? Yes, indications are that there is plenty of it and that some day, perhaps soon, Eastern Carolina will astonish the world with news a great find of oil in quantities. This is the opinion of Mr. B.C. Banks of Norfolk, who is in Washington with his two sons, William and Frank, all oil experts, on a visit to this section.
Mr. Banks is a mining engineer and an expert on coal and oil and having explored Roanoke Island, Hyde, craven and Beaufort counties and found excellent deposits of oil, he is able to say that no longer is it a myth or romance to talk of oil being found here.
In the short time the company Mr. Banks represents will start on a 3,000-foot well in Craven county at which depth he believes oil will be struck in paying quantities.
This week Mr. Banks and sons have been investigating in the vicinity of Pinetown and that district is going to be heard from some day, if Mr. Banks does not lose his guess.
