The elegant country home “Thornfield” of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Scales at Cascade, Va., was the scene of rare beauty on Thursday, when their charming daughter, Miss Anne Scales entertained at a bridge luncheon at which time the engagement of her cousin, Miss Kitty May Irvin, and J.L. Murdock was announced. The wedding to occur late in October.
Miss Irvin is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Lee Irvin, a very attractive and popular young woman. She is Maj. A.H. Galloway’s grand daughter and a great niece of the late Governor A.M. Scales. Mr. Murdock is an only son of Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Murdock of Boston, Mass., and a man of sterling worth. The guests on this happy occasion were Miss Sara Irvin, and Mrs. R.P., Richardson, sisters of the honoree, Misses Marguerite and Helen Penn, Misses Sara Watt, Margaret R. Womack, Margaret Richardson, Evelyn Kemp, Gladys Burton, Mrs. J.L. Womack, Miss Mary Hairston of Baltimore, Md.; Miss Maie Penn of Danville, Miss Lucinda Martin of Leaksville, Miss Emma Estes of Cascade, and her sister, Miss Helen Terrell of Lynchburg, Va.

Boyd-Perkinson
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hill Boyd of Washington, D.C., formerly of Reidsville, announce the engagement of their daughter, Caroline Reid, to Thomas Randolph Perkinson Jr. of Danville, Va. The marriage will take place in late fall. Announcement of the betrothal will be of interest to many people in Reidsville and throughout Virginia and North Carolina, where both Miss Boyd and Mr. Perkinson are well known and widely connected. Miss Boyd is a niece of Mrs. R.L. Dibrell of Danville, Va., Mr. Perkinson being a son of T.R. Perkinson, being also closely related to prominent families in North Carolina. Since his graduation at Virginia Military Institute, he has been associated with his uncle, J.E. Perkinson of Danville.
