Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Reaves Celebrate 25th Wedding Anniversary, Aug. 16, 1923

An Unusual Social Event

One of the most enjoyable social affairs of the season occurred Thursday evening, August 2nd, when Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Reaves celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

Under the skillful direction of Mrs. C.V. Johnson of Smithfield the spacious home was tastefully decorated for the occasion, lovely color schemes being carried out in the various rooms by means of ferns, cut flowers and tulle. The reception hall and parlor, which were thrown together, were decorated in white and green. The back hall was in yellow; the gift room, where the lovely silver was displayed, was in pink and green; and the dining room in red and green. The table in the dining, with silver cornucopias filled with flowers and an immense bride’s cake with the dates “1898-1923” in silver, was especially attractive.

The guests were greeted at the front door by Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Thomas. They were then directed to the punch bowl by Mrs. C.W. Seate (? Word obscured), where they were served punch by Miss Mary Poole and Mr. Robert Hatcher. Mr. and Mrs. Arch Currie introduced to the receiving line composed of the following: Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Reaves, Mr. Roy Reaves, Mrs. Lee Maultsby of Montrose, Miss Dixie (? Word obscured) Reaves, Master L.E. Reaves Jr., Master Hallie Reaves, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Bingham of Raleigh, Mr. and Mrs. C.E. B? (word obscured) of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. E.R. Canady, Mrs. C.L. Johnson and Mr. J.W. Whittenton of ??; Mrs. T.J. Lassiter and Mrs. C.V. Johnson of Smithfield.

After greeting those in the receiving line the guests were directed to the dining room by Mrs. A.A. Williford and Mrs. Lila Blue. Receiving in the dining room were Misses Annie May Fuller and Maude Poole and Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Cameron. A group of young girls as follows served a delicious course of ice cream and cake: Misses Kathleen Blue, Mary McBryde, Sarah McEachern, Flora McPhail and Jewel Snead.

Receiving in the back hall were Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Bethune. At the gift room door were Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Thomas, while those receiving in the gift room were Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Fuller and Miss Annie McEachern. Presiding over the Victrola which furnished music throughout the evening were Miss Alberta Fuller and Dr. K.B. Geddie. The registration book was in charge of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Fuller. Those directing the serving of refreshments were Mrs. Will Lentz, Mrs. S.A. Snead and Miss Mary Pratt.

About a hundred guests called during the evening to wish Mr. and Mrs. Reaves continued happiness and prosperity. The lovely array of silver was a silent attestation of the esteem in which this “young couple” and their family are held.
