Doctor, Alderman Tussle Over Dog, Apples, Sept. 14, 1923

Doctor and Alderman Engage in a Scrap

Dispute arising over a dog and some children are said to have been the cause of a clash between County Health Officer Dr. C.B. Williams and County Councilman L.S. Gordon, Burgess Street neighbors, this week. Mr. Gordon is said to have gotten the worst of the row, the doctor being the larger man.

It seems that a dog of Dr. Williams’ had been visiting at the Gordon home, and Mr. Gordon unable to keep him off the premises, shut the visitor up. The younger son of Dr. Williams discovered the dog and notified his father, whereupon they went over to claim the property. Alderman Gordon was in a bad humor when Dr. Wiliams in chiding him for shutting up the dog made statements to the effect that Mr. Gordon’s children had stolen enough apples from his backyard to more than make up for the damage done by the dog. In reply to this, Mr. Gordon is said to have hitched up some vile words with “liar,” which had the immediate effect of causing Dr. Wiliams to grab the Alderman by the collar and shake him violently, on the street.
