Hickory, Sept 10—Hail, accompanied by a high wind and heavy rain, pelted this section violently late today, the center of the disturbance said to be the Catawba river, three miles north of town. In Hickory several lights were broken, lightning struck the fire alarm wires, and the fire department was called out.
Persons living near the river said it was the worst wind and hail storm in 30 years. The damage is expected to be light because most crops have been made.
Hail stones fell here for 20 minutes. An unusually heavy rain also poured down.
