Lizzie Jane Shuford was born in the Sharon community of Cleveland county July 16, 1892. She was the daughter of the late W.P. Shuford and Mrs. Martha Shuford, who now makes her home with Mr. S.M. Weathers of Shelby.
She was born in a Christian home and was reared under the strongest Christian influence. She was a convert at the age of 9 and joined the M.E. church South at Sharon. From childhood she seemed strongly inclined to piety and it can truthfully be said of her that “the child grew and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom and the grace of God was upon her.”
On July 22, 1909 she was married to Mr. B.H. Moss. To this union was born six children, four of which survive her.
Mrs. Moss possessed a beautiful Christian character which neve shown more brightly than it did in her sore affliction and intense suffering. For several years she has been in ill health and for the past several months she was a great sufferer. But her Christian fortitude, patience and sweet disposition never failed her.
On September 8, 1923 she died as she had lived, triumphant in Christ.
Besides her husband four children, she leaves her mother, three sisters, four brothers and nunnumbered host of friends to mourn her departure.
Mrs. Moss was laid to rest Sunday in the church cemetery at Sharon in the presence of a large concourse of friends and relatives. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.C. Pastell, assisted by her husband’s pastor, Rev. Mr. Tate and Rev. J.W. Ingle and Rev. Wilson.
The floral tribute was large and beautiful, testifying to the esteem in which this young Christian woman was held.
