The first bale of cotton ginned in this county, so far as The Star has been able to learn, was that ginned at Mr. Cameron Putnam’s gin Thursday. The bale was raised by R.M. Lemons on Mr. Joe Wesson’s farm near Sharon.
The cotton was of excellent grade and brought 26 cents per pound. It was bought by the Ella Mill. Mr. Wesson has 135 acres in cotton and he believes he will secure a bale to the acre this year. His cotton farm, says County Agent R.E. Lawrence, is one of the finest in the county. Cotton is opening rapidly throughout the county and indications are that gins all over the county will be busy within the next few days.
Tom Surratt, who farms on the land of Mr. Jason Hoyle, Friday had a bale ginned Beams Mill. He received 25 ½ cents [per pound] for this bale.
