Washington, Sept. 6 (Capital News Service)—The 357,000 total number of immigrants receivable under the 3 per cent quota law, and the year which ended on June 30 saw 522,919 immigrants enter this country. It is explained by the immigration authorities that the 169,919 extra were all person specifically exempted from the provisions of the act, as well as by immigration from Canada and Mexico, which countries do not come within the provisions of the quota law.

How well the United States is appreciated as a land of opportunity by the citizens of war-torn Europe is shown by the fact that last year’s immigrants exceeded those of the year before by 214,363, whereas the number of aliens who departed fell from 198,712 in 1921-1922 to 81,450 in 1922-1923, the net increase of the immigrant population of this country being 110,844 in 1921-1922, as against 441,469 in 1922-1923.
