Warrants to Arrest Coopers. . . Cooper Brothers Are Arrested and Give Bond

Wilmington, N.C., Sept. 13—Warrants for the arrest of Thomas C. Cooper and J.C. Rourk, former resident and cashier, respectively, of the defunct Liberty Savings Bank of Wilmington, were issued here today following their indictment by the New Hanover county grand jury on charges of violating the state banking laws.

Thomas C. Cooper and his brother, W.B. Cooper, lieutenant governor of North Carolina, former president and chairman of the board, respectively, of the defunct commercial National Bank of Wilmington, recently were arrested on federal charges of conspiracy to defraud and wreck the Commercial National Bank of Wilmington. The latter were released on bonds.

The defunct Liberty Savings Bank another of several banks in which the Cooper brothers and associates were known to be interested, became involved in difficulties at about the time the Commercial National Bank closed by a federal bank examiner on December 30, 1923. (maybe meant to be 1922?)
