A Ford touring car occupied by six negroes struck a bridge on the Black Creek-Lucama road, near midnight last night, tearing down about 40 feet of the bridge railing and then dropping into the swamp below. One negro named Locust was killed while the other five escaped injury. Two brothers by the name of Locust were in the car, one the owner was driving the car, the other occupied the front seat with him and when the car hit the bridge was hurled out of the car into the creek and instantly killed.
The car after hitting the rail was hurled into the swamp below and landed upside down, the other occupants crawled out from under it and went up the road and notified a negro farmer that one of their party had been killed at the bridge and asked him to go down and get the body. The negro went down and drug the body from the creek and notified the Lucama authorities.
The brother of the dead man, who was driving the car, stated this morning that they were not drunk nor were they speeding, but failed to give the cause of the accident.
