Elkin Man and 72 Gallons of Liquor Taken Near Harmony

With 72 gallons of brandy and whiskey aboard, a Buick roadster, driven by John Carter of Elkin, was captured at 6 o’clock this morning several miles north of Harmony, on the Wilkesboro road, by Deputy Sheriff’s T.L. Tomlin and J.W. Beaver. There were 40 gallons of brandy and 32 gallons of whiskey. At $20 per gallon, said to be the current price in this region, his load would have netted him $1,440. He was placed in jail here. The car was confiscated and both brandy and whiskey poured out in Court street by Sheriff M.P. Alexander. Carter is 20 years old and very well dressed. –Statesville Landmark
