In Durham Superior Court, Dec. 19, 1923

Superior Court Reduces Docket. . . Johnson Gets Year Term for Manufacturing Whiskey—Dick Ferrell Guilty

Twenty-two cases were taken up on Tuesday in the second day of the special December term of Durham county superior court, criminal session. In the number of cases called capaises were issued for defendants who failed to appear. Continuances were made in several cases and nol prosses in others.

The trial of William Hugh Woods, charged with murder, will probably be started on Thursday morning.

Cases on Tuesday were as follows:

--Y.A. Stuart, embezzlement, pleaded guilty of trespass, judgment continued upon payment of the costs.

--Joseph Ferrell pleaded guilty to disposing of mortgaged property, judgment suspended upon payment of one-half of the costs.

--J.T. Hines, speeding, nol pros with leave.

--Wesley Pratt, larceny, alias capias continued; retailing same record.

--George Lee, vagrancy, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, and speeding, continued.

--J.C. Thompson, speeding, nol pros with leave.

--Hollie Harris, boisterous cursing, nol pros.

--Wade Pool, embezzlement, pleaded guilty, judgment suspended upon payment of costs and $40 to H.O. Brown.

--Jessie Quiller, reckless driving, pleaded not guilty.

--Charles Vowell, false pretense, continued.

--Frank Dunston, illegal possession of whiskey, nol pros with leave.

--June People, using room for immoral purposes, nol pros with leave.

--Marvin Hall, larceny, nol pros with leave.

--Tom Johnson, manufacturing whiskey, pleaded guilty, 12 months to the roads, gave bond of $500 for appearance January 18 to serve term.

--W.R. Shambley, transporting whiskey, called and failed, judgment nisi sci fa capias, continued.

--Ralph Daniels, illegal possession of whiskey, nol pros with leave.

--John Page, manufacturing whiskey, alias capias, continued.

--Dick Farrell, vagrancy, jury returned verdict of guilty.
