Arrest Man Who Slashed Goodwin. . . Local Officer Goes to South Carolina After John Story

John Story, white man who on July 7 seriously wounded Alfred Goodwin by slashing him with a knife while in a cotton field near the city, has been arrested by Sheriff E.M. Whie of Greenwood, S.C., and is being held until the arrival of officer Rowland A. Gill of the local police department, who will take charge of the prisoner and return him here for trial under a charge of assault and battery with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

The local police officer left Tuesday for Columbia to secure the signature of the governor of Suth Carolina to requisition papers and will proceed to Greenwood Wednesday afternoon.

Goodwin, according to police, was badly slashed by Story and narrowly escaped with his life after losing a large quantity of his blood. As far as can be learned there was no provocation for the attack, the police state.
