Friends of Mr. Thomas B. Wilder of Aberdeen will be pained to learn of the death of his son, Thomas Jr., which occurred at his home Saturday at 3 o’clock. Death was from tetanus. Following account appeared in The News and Observer Tuesday:
State Highway Commissioner Frank Page returned from Aberdeen yesterday where he attended the funeral of his nephew, Thomas Wilder Jr., whose death occurred at 3 o’clock Saturday morning following an attack of tetanus that developed from a cut on the hand while playing at school a week before.
No apprehension was felt for the boy until Thursday morning. The cut on his hand showed extreme irritation, and he complained of discomfort in his face, but the prevalence of mumps in the community disarmed suspicion of anything of a more serious nature. Tetanus definitely developed Thursday.
The lad was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Be. Wilder. He was exceedingly popular throughout the Sandhill section, and a leader in the activities of the high school. His death comes as a severe shock to the community. Mrs. Wilder, who is a sister of Mr. Page, is prostrated.
