While playing in the street near his home in East Durham Sunday afternoon about 2:30 o’clock, Jeter Tatum, 11-year-old boy, was struck by an automobile driven by Lester Overton and both of his legs were broken. He also suffered injuries about the head. The injured boy was taken to Watts hospital where his injures were attended.
Witnesses state that the accident was unavoidable and as yet no arrest was made of Overton. It is stated that Jeter was crossing the street while at the same time kicking a sack before him, paying no attention to the approaching automobile. The driver made an attempt to avoid striking the boy without result.
