Still Captured in Sassafras Fork Township, Feb. 2, 1924

Two Stills Are Captured

Oxford, Feb. 2—Deputy Sheriff E.N. Bragg and Bob Walker, assisted by Federal Revenue Officer Franks of Raleigh, captured a 75-gallon still in the tobacco strip house of Tom Hutchen today in Sassafras Fork township. The still was in the furnace, ready for operation, and Hutchen was preparing beer when the officers made the raid. Hutchen and another fellow, whose name was not made public, were arrested. They found no whiskey but destroyed about 500 gallons of beer. The still was made of solid copper, and according to Officer Bragg was the best one they have captured in several months.

The same party captured another still of about 65 gallons capacity in the same community Friday. |This one was hidden out.

The still captured today gives the officers a total of 21 captures in this county since January 8.
