In the federal court for the Wilson district this morning, Judge Connor presiding, a number of cases of violation of the federal liquor laws were disposed of. One jail sentence and several fines were drawn by the accused.
J.A. Edwards pleaded guilty through his attorney, W.A. Finch, to a charge of possessing and transferring liquor, and was fined ??? He was granted 30 days to make ?? a nolle pross was entered to E.F.J. Edwards.
Bud Williams pleaded guilty to possessing material and equipment for the making of liquor and was fined $50. His attorney was Mr. Oscar Rand.
Litman Carter, who was represented as counsel by attorneys Langston, Taylor and Allen, of Goldsboro, pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing liquor, and was fined $25.
Walter Williams, colored, of Halifax county, had to answer to the charge of manufacturing liquor. He did not resist a verdict of guilty, and was given six months in jail. The case was heard by a jury. The defendant’s attorney was Mr. G. Wiley Taylor of Whitakers.
William Powell and Jasper Taylor, colored, of Nash County, pleaded guilty to two cases each of making liquor, and under each charge was fined $100. That is, they were called $200 each. Their attorney was Mr. J.P. Bunn of Rocky Mount.
B.H. Hunter was fined $100 under a plea of guilty to a charge of making liquor. His attorney was Mr. T.T. Thorne of Rocky Mount.
