Leroy Wingate Accused of Reckless Driving, April 1, 1924

Two Fords Collide; No One Was Injured

Leroy Wingate, negro, was arrested about 2:30 o’clock this afternoon on a charge of reckless driving an automobile. He was placed in jail in default of bond to await trial Monday before Mayor Silas Lucas.

Wingate, according to witnesses, was proceeding up Lee street at a high rate of speed in a Ford roadster, and collided with a Ford sedan driven by Stocky Howard, young white boy, at the corners of Lee and Hill streets. Both cars were damaged considerably, one wheel on the sedan being broken and the fenders bent, the fenders and radius rod on the roadster was bent.

The occupants of both cars escaped without injury.
