Tracy Herring Bound Over to Court in Death of Mrs. Goode, June 16, 1924

Herring Bound Over to Court. . . Young Man Charged with Responsibility for Death of Mrs. S. Goode Remanded to Jail in Default of $2,000 Bond

Tracy Herring, who has been in jail here since the 25th of May charged with the slaying of Mrs. S. Goode, mother of Mrs. E.R. Hardin, who died in a local hospital as a result of injuries sustained when a car driven by Herring upset one that she was riding in, was given a hearing Saturday before Recorder Ivey, who found probable cause and bound him over to Superior Court. Herring was remanded to jail in default of a $2,000 bond.

The accident happened on the afternoon of May 24 on the W.C.A. Highway just over the river near the Robeson Manufacturing Co. Herring, whose car was put out of commission, took to his heels before help came in the form of two young men of Maxton, who were near enough to see the wreck. They carried Mrs. Goode to a hospital, where she died the following Thursday. Herring caught a passing car up the road a piece and was caught by officers as he was making an attempt to board a west-bound passenger train at Lowe that afternoon.
