Capt. Dempsey Leads "Wilson's Own" to Encampment, July 8, 1924

Company ‘M’ Off for Encampment. . . Local Machine Gun Company Under Guidance of Captain J.C. Dempsey Left Yesterday Morning for Two Weeks Encampment at Moorehead

Machine Gun Company ‘M’ of the North Carolina National Guards left yesterday morning for Morehead for two weeks encampment under the guidance of Captain J.C. Dempsey.

Captain Dempsey and his company composed of “Wilson’s Own” left 86 strong, carryhing with them their entire equipment, consisting of machine guns, kitchen equipment and camping regalia.

Prior to the departure of the special train carrying the local company, Rev. M.F. Ham held a special prayer service with Captain Dempsey and his men, while a large number of friends and relatives who were at the station to see the boys off, joined in.
