News Items from Saddletree. . . Lumberton and St. Paul May Look Out—Series of Meetings Splendid Success—Social and Personal

Saddletree (Lumberton R. 2), July 7—A number of our people attended the Sunday school convention at Great Marsh Friday and Saturday.

Miss Ruth Williams of Monroe spent the past week with Miss Beulah Maie Humphrey. They are classmates at Wingate Junior college.

Mrs. Almond Graham of Roseboro is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Humphrey.

Mr. Henry T. McDuffie left Monday for Chapel Hill, where he will take a special course in music at the summer school.

President Hough of Wingate Junior college and Prof. C.M. Beach, former president, spent some time recently in the home of D.B. Humphrey.

Mr. Stephen McDuffie is attending the Wake Forest summer school.

The local B.Y.P.U. held its annual social among the “oaks” in the yard of Mr. D.B. Humphrey Saturday evening. The weather was ideal, and everyone seemed to enjoy the occasion fine. Cream and cake were served.

Miss Hasel (Hazel?) Hill of Rennert spent some time last week with Miss Addie Maie Wilford.

Mrs. Benson Humphrey of Baltimore has been on a visit to Mr. Humphrey’s parents, in this community.

Messrs. Moses and J.S. Paul are each riding in a new Ford and others are on the anxious seat.

Saddletree now boasts of two stores and two gas stations, with more in prospect. Who knows but Lumberton and St. Pauls will be suburbs of S.T. some day?

The series of meetings held at the church here by Rev. A.P. Stevens was a splendid success. Thirty members were added to the church.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Humphrey entertained a number of their friends, two days this week in honor of Miss Ruth Willliams of Monroe.

Mr. Grady Harrell has discarded his buggy through the courtesy of Mr. Ford.

Mrs. Gordon Holder has returned home after spending several days in Thompson hospital. We are glad to hear she is much improved.

Mr. Ed Humphrey of Buies Creek spent some time here this week.
