Our First Issue

With this, the initial issue, the Carolina Jeffersonian makes its dive into the ocean of newspaperdom. The Carolina Jeffersonian will be published in Raleigh every Wednesday and its aim is to cover North Carolina like the dew.

The Jeffersonian Publishing Company, in assuming the undertaking of publishing the Carolina Jeffersonian, fully appreciates the great responsibility that rests upon the shoulders of the publishers of the right kind of newspaper. One method whereby ideas or thoughts are expressed or circulated is through the newspapers. Speaking on one occasion to some students at a college in England, a professor said that five-sixths of our thinking is done for us by the press. This being true, it is the duty of a newspaper to endeavor to express the best thought of the land; that which will elevate, uplift and enlighten its readers and the public generally and to refrain from publishing those things which have a tendency to warp or distort the public mind. It is our purpose to maintain this paper on the high plane which it is pitched.

We will advocate at all times strict adherence to the principles upon which this Government was founded. we believe in loyalty and allegiance to our Government was founded. We believe in loyalty and allegiance to our Government in preference to any other government or power on the globe, and stand unalterably for separation of church and state.

While we are protestant in our views and believe in the teaching of the Apostle Paul when he said: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Tim. 2:5), we will respect the rights of others to worship according to the dictates of their own conscience as is there privilege under our form of government.

We will not indulge in personal scraps or scandals, but will try to give our subscribers a good clean readable newspaper.

We invite our readers to contribute to this paper by giving us their views on all matters pertaining to the public good.
