John Watts Is in Jail Charged with Serious Crime. . . A Malicious Indictment, Many Think—Defendant Blind and Denies Charge

John Watts, white, of St. Paul was lodged in jail here this morning charged with criminally assaulting his 11-year-old daughter. The warrant was sworn out by his wife. The defendant declares he is innocent, and many think that the charge is frivolous and malicious. The defendant is blind, and it is said that he makes a living by making mattresses.
