Dozen Gamers on Monday’s Docket. . . Auto Law Violators, Drunks and Others Haled Into Recorder’s Court

A round dozen gamblers faced Judge P.C. Graham in recorder’s court on Monday morning, and from them S.O. Riley, clerk, collected a round dozen $5 bills, and a similar number of bills of costs. Pierce Trice, the 13th of the group of gamblers pulled by police Saturday and Sunday, failed to appear to answer the charges against them. Those fined were Curtis Wilson, Charlie Jones, Client Burnett, Dave Harris, Gather Rich, Roney Atwater, Eugene Mebane, Wilbert Wilson, Cleo Durham, Jim Black, Carnie Conley, Lawrence Snyder.

Next in order came violators of automobile laws, numbering 11, while four speeders completed the roll of 15 persons whose automobiles were the means of getting them to court. Disposition of the auto law violation cases were as follows:

Arthur Peak, judgment suspended upon pay of costs;

Charlie Dedman, continued to August 20;

R.A. Council, continued to August 20;

A.P. Grumpton, judgment suspended upon pay of costs;

Sam Howard, Jasper Barbour, judgment suspended upon pay of costs;

T.S. Shutt, judgment suspended upon pay of costs;

A.D. Alderman, judgment suspended upon pay of costs;

Speeders fined were:

J.R. Couch, $5 and costs;

Percy Jones, $5 and costs;

Alfred Overby, $5 and costs;

C.T. Allen, $5 and costs;

L.F. Cody, $5 and costs;

C.C. Ross, $10 and the costs;

Sam Howard, $10 and the costs.

Six were up for drunkenness, as follows:

Rastus Jenkins, $5 and the costs, with one-half fine remitted;

W.H. Cates, $5 and the costs, with one-half the fine remitted;

Luther Alston, $10 and the costs, with one-half the fine remitted;

Luvinia Todd, $10 and the costs.

Corene Grays, Rosa Hammett and Luvenia Todd were arraigned under charges of affray, receiving fines of $1, $5, and $10 and the costs, respectively.

L.G. Powell was given a suspended judgement upon charges of passing a worthless check.

Charlie Alson, charged with assault and battery, was given a fine of $5 and the costs.

McKinley Geer was fined $15 and the costs for assault and battery.

Percy Harrington was found not guilty of assault and battery.

Five defendants were arraigned for larceny. Charlie Clayton, Robert Lewis and Erastus W. Lewis, charged with the larceny of an automobile, were docketed, the first body’s cases not being disposed of. The two Lewis boys, however, were bound to superior court under bonds of $500 each.
