Elizabeth City, Nov. 11—Joe Swindell, charged with misconduct with a 13-year-old girl some time ago, tonight was found guilty by a jury in Superior court after a trial lasting several days. Sentence will be passed upon Swindell tomorrow morning.
At the same time that Swindell is sentenced J.D. Farrior, grandfather of the girl in the case, will be sentenced on a plea of guilty with a deadly weapon upon Swindell. On the morning that Swindell was to have been given a preliminary hearing, Farrior in some manner got into the jail and entered the man’s cell, and shot him at close range with a pistol. The wound proved not to be serious.
Farrior is from Wilson, N.C., where it is said his family is very prominent.
