While South Votes Democratic, Rest of Country Votes Republican, Nov. 7, 1924

Calvin Coolidge is to remain in the White house another four years.

According to unofficial and incomplete returns the Republican ticket carried the country at the election Tuesday by large majorities.

The Republican majority even shattered and surpasses the record ?? huge total given to Harding in 1920.

Reports coming in already assure Coolidge of the 379 electoral ballots, which number was only twice exceeded in history. The Republicans apparently carried the big eastern states and most of the western states, the Democratic strength coming principally from the South.

John W. Davis, Democratic candidate, was defeated by Coolidge by a wide margin in West Virginia, Davis’ home state.

The Lafollette ticket attracted a ?? many votes in the aggregate but is reported to have fizzled and will receive very few electoral votes.
