Had it not been for Professor Sisk and the high school boys last windy Thursday morning, the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Claud Gentry near the graded school would have gone to ashes between 10 and 11 o’clock forenoon.
The wooden shingles were old and very flammable. One of the children threw some light kindling wood, old shingles, on the fire and a spark caught. In a brief time hose were secured form neighbors and by the time much as one side of the shingle roof was burned it was put out, which was sooner than the town truck and reel followed by several cars of men from down town. But the force of carpenters at work nearby on a house and the school had gotten it under control.
Insurance was carried.
