Tyson and Jones Company Adds Truck Bodies to Its Buggy Manufacturing, July 17, 1925

A Brighter Day for Carthage

The man who drifts around Carthage can see that the county capital is picking up, and that the future looks better over there than for a long time. Several things are working to this end, the principal industrial influence being the broadening of the products of the Tyson and Jones company. Automobiles affected the business of making buggies but some buggies are still called for and will be made. But the day of many buggies has gone by. So the company has been making bodies for trucks, and in other ways has come over to the automobile side. But of late a lot of new machinery has been added to the factory and more men put to work making certain varieties of furniture. The pay roll is working up toward 75 men, and will likely go higher in the course of the fall for the type of furniture made is finding a market, and it is backed by the old reputation of the company, which has always been of the highest.

Carthage is a substantial old town and has one of the most picturesque locations in North Carolina. From the ridge that is the main street of the village, the world opens out in all directions. Attractive homes line the street on both sides. A lot of cordial people live there, and the signs are that more will be drawn to the neighborhood as industry broadens. It is a pleasure to the rest of the county to see the county seat thrive for always Carthage is the court town of the county, the center of government and it must be the interest of all the rest of the county that the capital is a community that all can be satisfied with.
