Charlotte—Governor A.W. McLean is not stopping with a verbal letter of approval of the idea of increasing the interest among the women of North Carolina in making their own garments from Carolina-made goods, but is now offering a cash prize of $100 in a contest to be held by the Made-in-Carolinas Exposition this fall.
Governor McLean’s offer came in a letter to Mrs. Mayme Moore Sifford, director of the fashion and fabric department of the exposition, who visited the governor’s office recently and secured from him a letter of hearty approval and endorsement of the idea this department is trying to carry to the women of the two states.
Details of the award have not been worked out, Governor McLean announcing that he is so much interested in promoting the use of cotton goods in the making of wearing apparel that he is planning to offer a prize of $100 for the best display of dresses made from products of the North Carolina cotton mills. . . . .
