Mr. J.R. Green Dead

Ellenboro, Sept. 1—Mr. J. Reuben Green died Thursday morning, Aug. 27, early at his home in Ellenboro after about fiver months’ illness. He suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he never recovered. Funeral services were held at Bethel Baptist church Friday afternoon with Revs. Z.D. Harrill and L.D. Harrill in charge. One of the largest crowds in the history of Ellenboro attended the funeral services, the house being unable to hold the people.

Mr. Green was 62 years of age and was a faithful member of the Baptist church for 33 years. He was a native of Cherokee county, S.C., but has lived in this county for around 22 years.

He leaves a wife and eight children, mother, one brother and one sister. The children are: Messrs. W.E. and J.P. Green, Cleveland county; J.G., L.T., C.L., and Moore Green, this county, and Mrs. Beth Wilkie and Mrs. mattie Whitaker, both of this county.

Mr. Green was one of the county’s best citizens. He was industrious, honest, and loyal to his church, home, and country. He was a successful farmer, merchant, and marble yard dealer. His son, T.L., will continue the marble yard at Ellenboro.
