Man Castrated Over 15-Year-Old, Not Unpaid Grocery Bill, Sept. 19, 1925

The Truth “Will Out”

Day by day the public has become more convinced that something was wrong with the story told by the Union county man who charged that he was bound and gagged by four men and criminally assaulted. In his first report the man said he was mutilated because one member of the gang said he had not paid his grocery bill.

We admit there are all kinds of people in this world and some of them are cruel enough to mutilate a man for almost any excuse, but it was hard to believe that any one would so abuse a man because he did not pay his bills. The more this charge was thought over by the public the more unreasonable it sounded.

Soon after the condition of the man became known, it was rumored here that family troubles had something to do with it, and now the stepdaughter of the victim of the operation admits that she and the man have had immoral relations for some time, despite the fact that she is only 15 years old.

That sounds more like the truth despite the fact that her story is denied by the man. Union county people have insisted all along that “Sheriff Fowler will get the facts” and it appears now that he is getting near the cause of the trouble. It is hard to keep the truth and the old adage that “the truth will out” holds good in most mystery cases.
