Report J.B. Duke in a Critical Condition Durham, Oct. 9—Apparently authentic reports were received in the city today that the condition of James B. Duke, philanthropist and financier, is extremely critical and that his death is momentarily expected. Efforts to secure definite information, however, have been unsuccessful. He has been ill for several weeks, according to information received, and recently underwent a blood transfusion. From the front page of The Concord Daily Tribune, Saturday, Oct. 10, 1925. The first blood transfusion using blood typing and cross-matching was performed in 1907.
