Local Notes from Polk County News, Tryon, Oct. 22, 1925

J.F. Morrow of Rutherfordton was in Tryon Wednesday on a business trip.

Miss Lorraine Stone is happy to be home again, and her friends share the feeling.

Mr. J. Foster Searles is making over the Rowell cottage as a studio for himself.

Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Morris visited Mrs. Morris’ parents in Asheville Sunday.

Mrs. Mary O. Kelley has returned from Chicago where the funeral of her sister, Mrs. Annie Oakley of Asheville, took place.

Mrs. Lillie Wilson has opened an exclusive tea room in connection with her apartment house in Tryon.

Mr. Romaine Stone is in Chicago on business connected with the Mountain Industries. His house is ready for occupancy.

Miss Elizabeth Law was thrown from a restive horse and suffers a broken arm. It will be some weeks before she can hope to recover.

Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Morris have just completed a cozy bungalow in the wooded park near the P.H. Morris residence, and are moving in this week.

A.J. Humphries of Campobello, S.C., was a pleasant business visitor at The News office Monday, and renewed his subscription for the coming year.

Mr. Stein, a well-known painter, has bought Mrs. LeCount’s house and will make his home in Tryon. He will be a welcome addition to the growing artist colony here.

Dr. Broughton of Raleigh, State rural supervisor of schools, visited the Stearns high school at Columbus, the Tryon schools, and the rural schools throughout the county last week.

Miss Lenore Goodwin is back after a delightful summer spent at Thorsby, Ala.

Miss Marguerite Weltner will leave Saturday for Buffalo, N.Y., after spending a year in and near Tryon.

Miss Gladys Gibbs of the Tryon school faculty spent last week end in Lenoir, the guest of Mrs. C.L. Hornaday.

Attorney and Mrs. Wm. C. White are returning from Deerfield, Minn., this week to take up residence in their winter home.

Mrs. R. Dennison returned this week form her summer in the east to join her family who have been here some time. She was detained until now owing to illness.

Miss Roselinor Camp, who has spent her vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Camp at sandy springs plantation, left Fridy for Norman Park, Ga., where she will attend Norman Park College.

Mr. J.B. Warick, superintendent of construction of Lake Lanier, has construction of Lake Lanier, has recently moved into the cottage former occupied by Mrs. Burleson as a tea room, and is expecting Mrs. Warrick from New York Nov. 1.

Mrs. E.G. Holden visited Rutherfordton this week.

Dr. and Mrs. Vernon C. Cooley left last week for New York after a pleasant visit with Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Metcalf at their home near Columbus. They will later go on to their home in Chicago.

Mr. Willis Hudspeth, who is visiting his son, Attorney H.M. Hudspeth in Asheville, has rendered The News incalculable service this week on the linotype. Mr. Hudspeth returned to Asheville Tuesday.

Henry Reich, who with his wife and three children, has been visiting at the home of his father, H. Reich in the Valley, will leave Saturday for New York, leaving Mrs. Reich and the children to spend the winter.

Mrs. E. Pue Williams moved last Friday into her new home on Melrose avenue, which has been remodeled and newly furnished, and will continue her business as proprietor of a splendid boarding house for transit and tourist trade.

Mr. E.J. McManus, who was connected with the Tryon Development Company this summer in the capacity of engineer, left this week for Asheville, where he will be associated with Geo. Kershaw in his civil engineering offices there.

The Blue Ridge Weavers have taken the room formerly occupied by the tea room, waxed and polished the floor, and will employ it solely for the purpose of displaying their hand-hooked rugs, and hand-woven spreads. It has made an exceedingly attractive show room for this purpose.
