School Dismissed When W.C. Bennett Died, Nov. 5, 1925

W.C. Bennett Dies at Maxton. . . Was Prominent Citizen—Schools Closed as Mark of Respect

Maxton, Nov. 5—W.C. Bennett, prominent citizen of Maxton, died at his home here Monday morning at 9 o’clock after an illness of several months. A short funeral service was held at the home here at 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon.

The remains were taken Monday evening to Wadesboro, former home of the deceased, and interment was made there Tuesday afternoon at 4 o’clock. Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife, nee Miss Elsie Bennett of Wadesboro, and three sons: Joe Frank, William Jr., and Thomas.

The grammar and high schools were dismissed at noon Monday as a mark of respect to Mr. Bennett, who was chairman of the board of trustees.
