Smithfield, Route 2, March 18—Sunday, February 28, was the 77th birthday of Mr. Ben A.G. Daughtry. His children and grandchildren gathered at his ho me and enjoyed a sumptuous dinner and a good time was the report. Mr. John Daughtry and family of Goldsboro were present.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sasser of Smithfield were visitors to this community last Tuesday.

Mr. W.J. Williams and Mr. William Stanley’s children were sent home from school one day last week on account of having chicken pox.

Mr. Leonard Capps of near Princeton spent Saturday night with his brother, Mr. Henry Capps.

Miss Cornelia Lynn of Mount Olive spent last week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Lynn.

Mr. Robert Smith of Ingold spent several days in this community on business recently. Mr. Smith put in a grocery business at Ingold last fall and is making good financially and has gained in weight from 136 to 180 pounds.

Misses Myra and Sarah Hill spent last week end with relatives and friends in Kenly and Micro.

Miss Lillie Daughtry of near Kely was a week end visitor here.

Mrs. Johnnie Talton visited relatives in Ingold several days last week.

Misses Minnie Lee Garrison and Bettie Lee Sanders of Smithfield, Rev. Mr. Dodd of Four Oaks, and Misses Virginia Wilson of Raleigh and Louise Townsend of Pine Level visited at the home of Mr. J.K. Sanders Sunday.

Mr. Richard Thompson of Stevens Chapel, the aged father of Mrs. Richard Daughtry, went up into his barn recently to get some feed and his feet became entangled in some hay, tripping him and dislocating one of his ribs.

Little Eloise Daughtry is very sick. She is threatened with pneumonia.

Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Britton of George are visiting relatives here.

Mr. J.J. Eason and family visited Mrs. Eason’s brother, Mr. John Johnson in Johnson school section Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. F.B. Toole visited relatives in Parker school section last Sunday.

We are sorry to report that Mr. Will Creech is suffering with rheumatism. He is unable to be out.

Miss Ruby Woodall of Smithfield spent the week end with her sister, Mrs. Vick Hill.

Misses Nancy Jones and Eldridge Creech of Brogden attended the wood-sawing at Mr. Vick Hill’s Wednesday night.

Mr. Sidney Barber of Benson visited friends in this section on Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Eugene Caudill went to Raleigh Sunday evening.

Messrs. Hubert and William Creech of Benson were visitors in this section Saturday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Willie Lee and family, of Brogden, spent Sunday with Mr. Tom Hill’s family.

Mr. and Mrs. B. Godwin and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Godwin of Pine Level visited Mr. ;and Mrs. J.A. Woodall recently.

Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Creech visited their father, Mr. Fet Peedin, near Princeton Sunday evening.

Miss Dora Creech and Miss Cora Thompson of Stevens Chapel visited Miss Mildred Graham Sunday.

Mr. J.E. Creech and Mrs. Robert Howell were business visitors in this community Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Edwards and children, of Newton Grove, passed through this community Monday.

Misses Alma Creech and Nellie Hill made a business visit to Hickory Cross community Monday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Rufus Creech and children, Dorothy and Billie, visited their aunt, Mirs Pollie Wiggs near Princeton Sunday evening.

Those attending the square dance in Smithfield Tuesday night for the benefit of the new hospital were: Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Woodall, Mr. and Mrs. Barney Watson and Messrs. Ruffin and Jim Hill and Herman Watson.

Mr. J. Rufus Creech has finished his new garage.

Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Creech and son, Leonard, visited their daughter, Mrs. Eula Edwards near Princeton Monday.

Miss Rena Hill, who attends the Princeton school, remained at home on Tuesday on account of being sick.

Mrs. Nancy A. Creech of Stevens Chapel, mother of Mr. J. Rufus Creech of this community, recently returned from a visit to her daughter, Mrs. Fred Sasser in Rocky Mount.

Smithfield, Route 2, March 22—Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Pittma of Thanksgiving spent Sunday night with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Creech.

Miss Nellie Hill and Miss Alma Creech recently visited Mrs. James Rowe near Princeton.

Mr. Rodger Game and children, of near Smithfield, visited Mr. Ed Game’s family Sunday evening.

Mr. Richard Hill and family, of Holt Lake, and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hill of Smithfield visited relatives here Sunday.

Mr. Joe Daughtry has recently built a neat three-room tenant house on his farm.

Miss Eldridge Creech of Brogden spent Sunday night with Miss Ila Daughtry. Earl, the little so of Mr. Henry Capps, stumbled and fell recently and his arm was badly scaled by his upsetting a pan of hot water that was on the hearth.

Mr. Williams Sutton of Selma called on friends in this community Sunday afternoon.

Miss Inez Thompson of Stevens Chapel spent Tuesday with Miss Alma Creech.

Messrs. Metts and Bridgers of Goldsboro were business visitors in this community Monday.

Mrs. Leonard Brown and children of Selma are spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Will Eason.

Mr. Joe Hines and Mr. Walter Game of Rose Hill helped Mr. Ed Game work on his tobacco barn Tuesday.

Mr. Charlie Smith of Goldsboro spent the week end with his sister, Mrs. Claud Hill.

Mr. and Mrs. Condary Ellis of Pine Level made a business visit to this community Tuesday.

Mr. J.K. Sanders made a business visit to Polenta Wednesday.

Mrs. Reid Hodgen spent the week end in Chapel Hill with her husband, who holds a position there. Andora, Mrs. Hodgen’s little daughter, is spending some time with relatives in Greensboro.

The school truck that was damaged at Holt’s pond by baking into a bus, has been repaired and is in operation.

Mrs. Hodgen gave her pupils a candy pulling at the school house Thursday evening in honor of her pupils who have been prompt and obedient. By hard work on the part of the pupils, all were admitted. Several visitors were there and the party was much enjoyed.

Miss Ila Daughtry and Miss Eldridge Creech spent Wednesday night with Mr. Jessie Thompson in Stevens Chapel section.

We regretted to hear of the death of Mr. Jim Strickland of Four Oaks, father of Mr. John Strickland of this neighborhood, which occurred last Wednesday.

Mr. Clyde Youngblood of Wilson’s Mills and Mr. Charlie Howell of Raleigh were in this community fox hunting Thursday.

Mr. C. Parker of Princeton, who is agent for Rolling’s supplies, was in this section last week.

Mr. and Mrs. John Barnes of Creech’s section went to Selma Wednesday to visit Mrs. Jim Stancil who has been very sick for several weeks.

Mrs. Clyde Lynn visited Mrs. Maie Barnes Godwin of near Selma recently.

Mrs. Sarah Crocker of Pine Level spent last week end with Mr. and Mrs. John Barnes of Creech’s section.

Ione Powell was too late for the truck Thursday so she attended the candy pulling given by Mrs. Hodgen to her school children on Thursday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Rufus Creech received a message Monday that their son, James, who is attending school at Bingham, was in the infirmary suffering from a cold and fever. Captain McGee of Bingham sent the message.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bryant, who have been making their home in Florida for the past several weeks, are visiting relatives here and at Goldsboro.

Mesdames Ed Sasser, T.C. Jordan and Miss Ruth Jones of Smithfield spent Wednesday with Mrs. J. Rufus Creech.

A business meeting was held at Pomona school house Monday night but as it had not been freely advertised, the meeting is to be called next Wednesday night. All the patrons are especially urged to be present.

Mrs. Howard Olive is very sick at her home near Sardis Chapel.

Mrs. Will Hamilton is spending this week with her daughter, Mrs. Pharoh Kornegay of Progress.

Mr. J. Rufus Creech spent a few hours near Wilson’s Mills on business Wednesday evening.

The farmers of this section are taking advantage of the wet weather to haul their lime and fertilizer.

Mr. D.A. Godwin and Mr. M.L. Ennis of Smithfield were business visitors in this community Wednesday.

Mrs. Nancy A. Creech of Stevens Chapel, who has been spending several days with the family of Mr. J. Rufus Creech, returned to her home Tuesday evening.
