Blanchard and Holmes of Fayetteville Killed in Action in France, 1918

“Saturday’s Casualty List,” from The Monroe Journal, Hickory, N.C., Saturday, Oct. 5, 1918. The Oct. 5 casualty list in The Monroe Journal was different from the casualty list in the Oct. 5 issue of The Monroe Journal. 

Washington, D.C., Oct. 5—The following casualty list is reported today:
Killed in action, 113
Missing in action, 66
Wounded severely, 303
Died of wounds, 31
Died of disease, 13
Died from aeroplane accident, 8
Total, 534

The following North Carolinians were included in the list:

Killed In Action

Lem C. Blanchard, Fayetteville
Rodger C. Holmes, Fayetteville

Wounded Severely

Lloyd N. Hone, 61st Infantry, Camp Greene
